Garage Jam 1987-1989
In the day it was a humble garage where my dad parked his Datsun Blue Bird (I fucking hated that car by the way) and in the night (most Saturdays) it was THE place to be! people use to travel from miles (meters really) to check out the 'Jam Down Rockers' (erm my brothers and there mates) get busy on the cardboard. It was fun times and the birth place of my DJing.
The spot ran for 2 years until we got shut down by my Dad because some girl got pissed on Malibu and passed out! we had to call for an ambulance party over :-(

Mid 90's Independent Hip Hop - mix download
Here is a 60 minute mix of some of my favourite records from the mid 90's underground Hip Hop scene. This sound is a snap shot of the records that we where selling in Mr Bongos at that time.
The intro was taken from Westwood’s rap show in 1998 (I think). He did a show on the ‘Underground Scene’. He interviewed me & Huw72 from Mr Bongos, Tony Vegas from the original Deal Real record store, The Creators, Will from Big Dada Records and DJ Spinna Live from his studio in NYC.
Track Listing:
Intro
Jigmastas - Beyond Real
Jigmastas - Beyond real (Remix)
Black Reign - Dirty
Kukoo - Real Kukoo
Choclair - What it Takes (Remix)
Choclair - Just a Second
Ill Advised - Against The Grain
Rawcotiks - Hardcore Hip Hop
Mister Voodoo - Hemlock
Network Reps - Simplistic
MF Grimm - Get Down
Siah & Yeshua dapo ED - Gravity
Negro League - They Lied
High & Mighty - It's All For You
Citizen Kane - Structure / Foundation (What's The Plan)
Rascalz - Fitnredi (rap essentials version)
Sic Sense - Position Bypass
Jam Dot - Soul Searchin'n'
Saukrates - Father Time
Pitch Black - Hold Me Down

It's def...so def...so def... so def... it's a def jam..
Ok 4 top instumental joints that for me sum's up my childhood inspiration for wanting to D.J!

Jazzy Jay 'Def Jam'
Super dope drum machine programming and ill larger than life cuts & scratches that only Jazzy Jay can pull off and to top it all, crazy vocoder scat vocals... FRESH!.

Hashim 'Al-Naafiysh (the soul)'
Starting off with a ill battle cry vocal so all the B-Boys knew what time it was and THE most brutal bass synth driving all the way though it! pure chill's down the spine. No scratching on this though, I tried to do my own with the most warn out 'Fresh' sound ever! (on a belt drive turntable to).

Tackhead 'There is a way out'
This is a weird one, I first heard this on Mike Alan's radio show. I could never find this until al least 10 years after I heard it. It's supposed to be DJ Cheese on the cuts but there is no writes credit for him. I like to think it is him because I think he was one of the best Dj's of that time!. Simple beat carried by layed cuts and scratches! 'the king of the pizza!'

Knight's of the Turntables 'Fresh Mess'
'Get of you're issssssssshhhhhh and jam'. Yep them again. They where from another planet! - I like to think they did the whole track in one take!.
Amazing 808 snare rolls, funky claps and haunting bass line!.
The B-side has a vocal cut called 'We are the Knight's. Sing along with me...
Their the new sensation thats rocking the nation.
The latest, the greatest, D.J creation.
The best crew you've ever heard or seen to your sight.
Check us out baby doll, we are the knights!
WOW! Mc Snowman what happened to him?...

Bag lady!
14 yrs old, £1.00 travel card, £20 in my pocket and I didn't tell my mum! (It was a big thing to get on a train in the sticks and travel to London in those days) these are some of the record stores I use to go to in the late 80's and early 90's in Soho London. what circuit did you do? I always hit Groove first then Hitman, Unity, Blackmarket, Bluebird, Daddy Kools (that's where Mr Bongos started by the way) and If I felt brave I'd go to Spin Off's in Hammersmith.
I used to pin the bags on my bedroom wall!!? (is that wierd?)
